They are calling us freshmen this year instead of “rookies” since the experience level of the Elite Series newcomers is so high. I look around and there are Classic champs, FLW Tour and FLW Cup champions and guys I have watched on TV and looked up to since I was old enough to read. Maybe these other “freshmen” are not phased by it but I sure was star-struck at times this week.
The old saying goes that we fish against the fish and I tried to remember that on every cast. Seminole fished “small” a lot this week but I was able to find some water to myself this week at points during the day and that helped. As Ken Duke of B.A.S.S. pointed out 107 guys went left out of the canal to the Flint River towards Lake Seminole and I was the only one to go right.
I found some fish up the Flint and caught several that I weighed in. I also fished in the crowds at times but was doing some I didn’t see anyone else doing. Most of my fish this week came on a Zoom Trick worm fished on spinning gear.
The Trick worm is something that we use on Tims Ford at home and it just felt right to me this week. I wasn’t on a lot of fish in practice but figured they would move in and a Trick worm is great for catching fish nears beds and those cruising in and out of spawning areas.
The anglers and their wives have been absolutely wonderful to us. Emily and I have been welcomed with open arms and that means so much to us both. We had a great week at Seminole and look forward to fishing the Elite Series more and more each day. Thanks for all the support through messages and posts on Facebook (ProAnglerBrandonLester link). We are working hard to keep you all updated there.
